Workouts and Apple Watch

Start on your phone, treadmill or watch, follow the blocks, then save back to Runese.

Start a workout

The Workout tab shows today. If a session is scheduled you will see the blocks, distance and aim. Tap a day on the Plan tab for the same detail on another date.

Tap Start run, then pick how to record:

  • Outdoor Run — GPS tracked inside Runese, with the map, cues and next-lap controls.
  • Treadmill Run — indoor, no GPS. Distance comes from the pedometer.
  • Apple Watch — send the structured session to Workout → Run → Runese.

Rest days still offer an Open Run — no targets, no structure. You can also start an extra open run on a training day without touching the planned session.

On your phone

The run opens full screen. You get a countdown, then the current block, remaining distance or time, and pace. Voice coaching calls reps, recoveries and splits if you left it on in Profile. Pause from the controls; swipe or use the exit options to finish or discard a false start.

The last rep can auto-finish. Then review the run, keep or drop Health / Strava toggles, and save. Start Running walk/run sessions count the walk and run blocks for you — no pace target.

Send it to Apple Watch

Apple Watch must be paired, and Apple Health should be on in Profile so the finished workout can return to Runese.

  1. Send from the phone

Start run → Apple Watch → Send to Watch. You should see “Sent. It's waiting under Workout → Run → Runese.” Use Preview on Watch if you want a system preview first.

  2. Start it on your wrist

Open the Workout app, scroll to the Run list, find Runese, and start today's session (or the open run). The Watch moves through each rep. Structured sessions alert you when you drift off pace; walk/run blocks are counted without a pace target.

  3. End, then open Runese

Swipe right and tap End when you finish. Open Runese on your iPhone so it can pull the workout in from Health. If Health is off, the session stays on your wrist and never appears in the app.

After you finish

  • Saved runs land in Sessions, and the plan day marks Done.
  • Ran outside Runese (another Watch workout, a different app)? If Health is connected, that activity can show on the day — tap to link it to the planned session.
  • Strava upload happens when you save, if you connected Strava and left the toggle on.
