Race plans

Peak for a 5K, 10K, half or marathon on a real date, with a taper into race day.

When to pick a race plan

Choose Prepare for a Race when you have a date. The engine builds toward that day, then tapers. For getting faster with no race booked, use Improve Pace.

How to set it up

  1. Race distance, then the date

5K, 10K, Half or Marathon, then the calendar date. Runese fills a default a few months out; you can change it as long as it stays past the minimum.

  2. Current fitness time

Same as Improve: a time that matches how you run today. Paces and the race prediction on Stats both come from this, then from the runs you log.

  3. Your week, then generate

Days per week, weekdays, optional Parkrun, long-run day, start date. Generate, create the account if you still need to, and connect Health so Watch and outdoor runs can attach to the plan.

Race day in the app

The race session uses your live prediction — not a stale goal from week one. Start it like any other workout, on your phone or Apple Watch. Targets update before the Watch plan is sent, so the blocks on your wrist match the prediction you see in Stats.

After the race, save the run and confirm a PB if you set one. That unlocks better estimates for the next block. To train for a new date, add a new plan rather than editing the old one in place.
